Fizik have developed a saddle designed specifically for the needs of 29er bikes. With longer saddle rails (K:IUM), this provides more adjustment which inturn helps the rider's position (further forward) to deliver better power transfer.
Thar is specifically developed for big wheel bikes that have different geometry compared to 26”. It allowes a compact forward sitting position thanks to its 95 mm rail adjustability.
Designed to allow optimum fit on 29in-wheeled mountain bikes. Larger wheels require different geometry, including longer chainstays and shallower seat angles. 29er's affect weight distribution and bike fit by moving the rider further towards the back of the bike. THAR is designed to counteract this effect to improve weight distribution for climbing and front-wheel grip. Normally fi'zi:k's saddles are categorised using Spine Concept. THAR is specific to the kind of bike.
The key element of the Thar's design is the shape and position of the saddle rails. With 25mm of extra adjustment to the rear of the rails, this allows the saddle to sit further forward than a normal saddle, improving bike fit, weight distribution and front wheel traction. Thar also includes a customisable tuner which allows the rider to personalise the level of base flex to suit their preferred comfort and riding style.
K:IUM is a fi'zi:k proprietary rail formulation. It's the combination of a particular metal alloy, a specific tubular design and a special finishing process which increases fatigue performance on the rail surface. Fact: 8% weight reduction compared to solid titanium. K:IUM features a high strength-to-weight ratio grade and high corrosion resistance.
Twin Flex Technology
Twin Flex construction combines two layers within the shell. A layer of multi-directional carbon fiber provides strength, while a bi-directional layer allows flex for comfort. The two layers are moulded together, so that the stiffer outer layer controls the flexibility of the inner layer.
Tuner insert technology allows riders to customize the flex of their saddle. The insert fits under the nose of the saddle and can be switched between hard and soft compounds according to preference. Attachment is by a single screw, so changing between insterts is quick and easy.
Integrated Clip System
The Integrated Clip System (ICS) is an integrated interface in the saddle's base to allow quick attachment and removal of ICS accessories such as the Fi'zi:k saddle Pa:k and Blin:k light. It is a clean, easy, fast and secure attachment that does not require any tools.
Performance saddles are narrower than the models designed for shorter ride comfort. They're intended for riders who have a committed riding style with weight on hands and feet so they're narrower and lighter. High tech padding materials and flexible body designs keep your pressure points comfortable and lightweight chassis components keep the weight down. Most have some kind of ergonomic design to reduce pressure on nerves and allow unrestriced blood flow to your sensitive areas. Womens models have a wider design to suit their naturally wider pelvis. Saddle widths vary across the ranges from narrow (upto 130mm), medium (upto 138mm) to wide (upto 146mm). Narrower saddles are the popular choice for longer distance riders as they do not cause the hips to be placed in an unnatural position. Wider saddles will often feel comfortable initially due to their greater surface area but then progressively decrease in comfort as the miles increase, the correct choice of saddle is a case of getting the balance between initial comfort and overall comfort.
Fi’zi:k is the premium, racing brand of Selle Royal S.p.a. Its name is synonymous with the shape and form of the human body; hence the intuitive association with products that are contact points between riders and their bikes. More than this, fi’zi:k represents beauty, speed, passion, freedom for those who race against each other, race against the clock and for enthusiast cyclists around the world who identify with the feeling of the fire of competition. The humble origin in 1996 stemmed from a vision to improve rider performance by creating superior saddle comfort. Today’s Spine Concept™ provides a guideline to help riders find their most comfortable saddle. Integral to this comfort is the design collaboration with professional athletes and the fact that each saddle is 100% “fatto a mano” (hand-made) in Italy. Some credit Fi’zi:k with redefining the racing saddle category thanks to its destructively-innovative elegant products that are not only comfortable, but also a source of style and beauty in their own right. The Arione, launched in 2003 is one such example. In 2006 fi’zi:k launched a product for riders’ hands: a strong, washable Microtex bar tape. Shoes were then launched in 2010 offering a unique blend of innovative materials with an inimitable style. 2014 saw fi’zi:k launch road cockpit components employing The Spine Concept™ to help riders choose their perfect handlebar shape. In 2016 fi’zi:k saddles are ridden by 8 UCI World Tour Teams. Fi’zi:k’s relentless innovation is facilitated by many such committed professional athletes, from all cycling disciplines. Relentless testing and refinement has helped fi’zi:k to push the boundaries of possibility. It will come as little surprise then that Fi’zi:k products have been ridden to many Cycling World titles, Ironman World Championship titles and beyond.
