Continental have also expanded the size range with an additional 28 mm version added. This provides improved grip in poor riding conditions, increased puncture protection and greater comfort. The proven aspects of the 4000 S II remain unchanged and handmade in Germany of course.
Vectran is a synthetically manufactured high-tech fibre from a natural model. Like spider silk, Vectran is a liquid-crystalline polymer (LCP). Vectran is spun from melted liquid polymer Vectra and processed further to a multi-strand thread. Spider silk, like Vectran, has an enormous tear resistance at a very low weight – exactly the right properties to process into a premium Continental bike tyre as a puncture protection insert. A Vectran Breaker is lighter, more flexible and protects more effectively against cuts than the comparable nylon breaker. Vectran Breaker does not adversely affect the rolling resistance.
Continental refine newly developed synthetic rubbers with natural rubber with the proven high-performance tread compound. They use these rubbers with special nanometric carbon soot particles, which are optimized in shape and surface properties for best uses for the intended tyre. BlackChili Compound reaches an unprecedented of performance. Tyres with BlackChili Compound reach an unprecedented level of performance. Compared to the previous best Activated Silica Compound, BlackChili tyres have 26% less rolling resistance, a 30 % higher friction value (grip) and a 5 % increase in mileage.
650c Wheel Sizing
Be aware that when purchasing a 650c inner tube, tyre, or wheel from the Wiggle site that what you are buying is smaller than a more conventional road 700c inner tube, tyre, or wheel. Most road bikes nowadays come fitted, as standard, with 700c wheels (including inner tubes and tyres) and not 650c. A 650c inner tube or tyre WILL NOT fit a 700c wheel.
Please read the 650c Wheel Sizing guide explaining the difference between 650c and 700c wheels.
Based on ETRTO (European Tyre and Rim Technical Organisation) dimensions, 650c wheels are smaller than 700c wheels by about eight percent. Please, when on this page make sure you are buying the correct tyre size for you wheel. Check the sizing on your tyre before purchasing from this page. Tyre sizes tend to be printed on the sidewalls so please check before making a purchase.
